BEAUMONT, TX – October 9, 10 & 11 hear the sounds of sacredness, old hymns rearranged anew, contemporary tempos and truth about music’s impact on our lives at St. Mark’s Fall Music Festival, 680 Calder Street in downtown.
The weekend features three distinct programs all with a musical focus and, of course, lots of music.
“We’re offering three different opportunities combining our heritage with contemporary teachings and sounds,” said Tressa Clarke, Fall Festival Chairperson. “We hope people of all ages come to all three events or select one or two that appeals to them the most. Our hope is that people will leave with a little more knowledge about music and worship, as well as with a blessing.”
TAIZE SERVICE
One of Beaumont’s most historic churches will open its festival with a historic service, a Taize Service, Friday, October 9 at 6:30 p.m. This Service of the Word is based on the worship practices of an ecumenical Christian monastic order in Taize, France. Drawn from contemplative roots where silence and reflection are central to worship, cyclical music allows the participants to center their thoughts on prayer. Taize worship combines singing, silence, scripture and prayer. Participants can begin the festive weekend of music with an informal informational discussion about Taize, followed by a candlelit vigil to the service and then dessert and coffee afterwards.
SHANE & SHANE CONCERT
Shane Barnard and Shane Everett are top Christian performers who will perform a live concert in the parking lot of St. Mark’s on Saturday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m. The duo has released six albums and been nominated for three Dove awards. They’ll perform family praise and worship music into the Southeast Texas night.
Kicking off for Shane & Shane will be The James Johnson, a talented mid-county Christian performer.
St. Mark’s expects youth groups and people from neighboring towns like Lake Charles and Houston to travel to see this “big name” in Christian music.
Tickets for this event are $20 and available online at www.stmarksbeaumont.org.
SASHA MCLEAN
The weekend culminates with speaker and educator Sasha McLean, LPC, LMFT, presenting on the effect media has on our lives and how it influences our children, Sunday, October 11 at 9:00 a.m.
Sasha is executive director of Archway Academy, a high school in Houston for teens in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. She is a sought-after speaker who travels nationwide.
