Go ahead and holler “FORE!” because your little white ball is going to make a huge impact when you hit it for Ben’s Kids. IEA Ben’s Kids is inviting golfers to its second annual tournament Monday, Oct. 12, at Bayou Din Golf Club.
And this isn’t just another charity golf tournament!
First, it’s convenient! There are two flights. Play in the morning at 7 a.m. or choose an afternoon start — 1 p.m. Second, a whole slew of sports celebrities will be swinging sticks with you. Current and former Major League Baseball players as well as other local prominent
sports figures including Cincinnati Reds Outfielder Jay Bruce; Toronto Blue Jay Kevin Millar; former Texas Rangers pitcher Mark Petkovsek; Florida Marlins pitcher Brian Sanches; former Pittsburgh Pirate Morgan Walker, who now runs the Southeast Texas Baseball Academy; former Angels pitcher Ben Weber; Lamar University head baseball coach Jim Gilligan; and head football coach Ray Woodard. You’ll find Beaumont’s own country music stars Tracy Byrd and Zona Jones in the fairway for this cause and warming up for their own Boys Bash Golf Tournament on Oct. 25!
Third, it’s all about kids. IEA provides programming for young people involved in the juvenile justice system. During the last several years, this group has contributed to a substantial decrease in the level of juvenile crime in our area. Through creative strategies that empower youth to make wiser choices about their futures, the organization reaches more than 400 young people annually.
Even if you’re golf motto is similar to mine (“Just look cute and eat lunch.”) this tournament is worth the price of registration, which is $125 a player or $500 a team – and a new golf outfit!
