Resolve to Get Healthy at the YMCA
SETXsocialcenter.com’s Danielle Kosir heads to Parkdale Mall this holiday season, but not for a shopping trip! Watch as she works with personal trainer Gabe Wells to burn off those seasonal calories. Also, Paula Gresham gives us a sneak peek of the YMCA’s new location on Dishman Road.
You know the party song “Auld Lang Syne,” got your resolutions listed, some friends to sing with and even someone to kiss when the clock strikes 12. Only one problem. Where ya gonna be come Dec. 31 for your New Year’s Eve (NYE) festivities? How about Spindletop Steakhouse and Continental Cuisine?
Chuck Harris, executive chef and owner, has not only put together an outstanding menu or two but he’s also got
live entertainment lined up, party hats and horns secured, the bubbly and varying seating times to accommodate early and
late night diners and partiers!
Bring in the New Year with either a three or four course dinner. The three-course meal is $52 a person and includes
a choice of three salads and three entrees. You’ll select from diver scallop cochon, a Mediterranean salad or a tomato or a goat cheese salad. The entrees include a New York strip, a filet or an herbed crusted line-caught Monk fish.
Heartier appetite? Choose a four-course meal for only $7 more. The first course includes a choice of the diver scallop cochon, calamari or Kobe tartar; the second course includes a choice of salad, either Mediterranean or an Ahi Tuna stack. The third course includes those entrees offered in the three-course meal with the inclusion of a surf-and-turf selection. Both meals offer grand finales of either a champagne butter cream cupcake or a Grand Marnier white chocolate mousse tower. (Don’t forget all resolutions start on Jan. 1, so indulge.)
NYE celebrations aren’t celebrations at all without a little music and a little bubbly. Harris has both covered! Then n’ Now featuring Wayne Cook and Elizabeth Kibodeaux will play tunes all night long from 9 p.m. until midnight!
Spirits will flow through the evening but a wide variety of wine and champagne options as well as wine flights will be offered.
Bring your friends and someone to kiss, be ready to sing and head down to Crockett Street cause Harris has the hats, horns, and most importantly, the bubbly and the food.Make reservations before it’s too late by calling (409) 832-2433. Spindletop Steakhouse onCrockett Street in downtown Beaumont will be hopping on New Year’s Eve.

The Julie Rogers “Gift of Life” Program is pleased to announce community leaders, Henri (Hal) deS. Clarke, MD, and Joe Domino, will be honored at Champagne & Ribs, the “Party of the Year,” benefiting the organization’s Prostate Cancer Initiative, on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at
Cowboy Harley-Davidson.
As a recent prostate cancer survivor, Clarke knows the importance of early detection and is an advocate of prostate cancer awareness and annual prostate cancer screenings. A well-known and beloved retired Obstetrician/Gynecologist, Clarke was in private practice in Beaumont for nearly three decades, delivering thousands of babies to happy families.
After graduating with a Doctorate in Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia, Clarke began an accomplished career, which included an internship at the University of Virginia Hospital, a residency at Duke University, and two years of service in the Air Force. He is a retired member of the American Fertility Society, the American College of OB-GYN, the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, and the Jefferson County Medical Society.
Clarke, along with his wife, Betty, supports many causes throughout Southeast Texas, including serving as a board member of the “Gift of Life” and former board member of Ubi Caritas.
Domino, President and CEO of Entergy Texas, has been an avid supporter of the “Gift of Life’s” efforts as a board member, sponsor and volunteer. Both professionally and personally with his wife, Linda, Domino’s numerous contributions have helped further the efforts of the organization’s prostate and breast cancer initiatives and provide thousands of free screenings for medically underserved individuals. Recognizing the need for volunteers at the “Gift of Life” Prostate Cancer Screenings, each year he gives his time and talents to guide clients through paperwork and increase prostate cancer awareness in the community.
In addition to his work with the “Gift of Life,” Domino holds leadership positions in civic organizations and serves on various boards, including Boy Scouts of America Three Rivers Council, the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lamar University Foundation, and the Southeast Texas Emergency Relief Fund.
Domino has received recognition from many community organizations, including being named a Distinguished Alumnus of Lamar University in 2005, Newsmaker of the Year by the Press Club of Southeast Texas in 2006, and King of the Neches River Festival in 2008. In 2009, Domino and his wife, Linda, were recipients of the American Heart Association’s J.C. Crager Award.
Since 2000, the “Gift of Life” Program has conducted over 5,800 free prostate cancer screenings and helped extend the lives of more than 40 men who were diagnosed with prostate cancer and provided access to treatment. Additionally, the organization conducts educational outreach presentations that discuss critical prostate cancer issues and provide valuable tips for preventative care. The proceeds generated through the fundraising efforts of Champagne & Ribs further the “Gift of Life” mission and enable the program to continue the deliverance of these lifesaving services in Southeast Texas.
For more information about Champagne & Ribs, please call the “Gift of Life” at (409) 833-3663.
