Phase 1 of CASA of Southeast Texas’ 2009 Toy Drive will be wrapping up on Monday, December 7 and Tuesday, December 8. Over the past few weeks, toys and gifts for children in foster care have been collected by students at Monsignor Kelly High School, West Brook High School, and Smith Middle School in Beaumont; Helena Park Elementary, Highland Park Elementary, Central Middle School, and Nederland High School in Nederland; and Port Neches-Groves High School in Port Neches. CASA staff will begin picking up toys from the schools starting at 8:00am on Monday morning. The drive provides a wonderful opportunity for students at these eight schools to help make Christmas bright for children that are victims of abuse or neglect. The toy pickup schedule, by school, as well as the names of contacts is included at the end of this release.
Following the arrival of several hundred toys at the CASA Office, staff will sort them by age group as they prepare for Phase 2, which begins on Wednesday morning December 9, when the CASA volunteers come in to select toys and gifts for the children with whom they work, and do a little present wrapping if time permits.
The most rewarding part of this entire process is Phase 3, which is the actual delivery process. The CASA Volunteers will be Santa’s helpers for the next 2 weeks, helping to assure that these children who have already suffered so much will be remembered on Christmas Day.
