The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) invites children and their families to enjoy a day of family-oriented fun and learning at “Set Your Sails for AMSET!” Family Arts Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.

This Family Arts Day will encourage children and their families to explore the artwork of Hans Molzberger, which features a sculpture installation including a boat that addresses Hurricane Ike among other pieces, and the extraordinary private African-American art collection of Dr. Hervy Hiner, a local nephrologist. Visitors will have the opportunity to create art activities related to Molzberger’s work such as paper boats and clay birds. To further understand Dr. Hiner’s collection and celebrate Black History Month through this historically significant artwork, children can make collages, freedom hats and take home the African board game Achi.

In addition, Family Arts Day will also feature a celebration of Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year and Mardi Gras. Festive activities will include making Valentine’s Day cards, Chinese lanterns and Mardi Gras masks. Entertainment will be provided by the Borden Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Angels Liturgical Dancers and David’s Heart Dance-Theater Company.

Face painting and refreshments will round out a wonderful event. As always, Family Arts Day is FREE and open to the public. Call (409) 832-3432 for more information.
