The Annual Celebrate Families Luncheon hosted by Family Services of Southeast Texas proved once again to be a huge success. The event took place Tuesday, February 9, in the Neches Room on Crockett Street in downtown Beaumont and raised more than $20,000 for Family Services programs.
The highlight of the luncheon came when Family Services longtime supporter, KFDM Channel Six News Anchor Bill Leger was named Family Advocate of the Year. Steven and Jeannette Forman received Family of the Year honors and the Quality Mat Company earned the Family Business of the Year award.
Leger talked about family values, while Larry Beaulieu, General Manager of KFDM Channel 6, spoke about Leger’s dedication to his job, his love for his Cajun heritage and his wanting to educate people about his Cajun roots.
Steven Forman and his family were presented with the Family of the Year honor. The Forman family was among many of the West Brook Girls Soccer team families affected by the 2006 wreck that killed two of the team members and injured their daughter. They are the reason that seatbelts will be placed in school buses beginning in 2010 and in charter buses carrying children in 2011.
Joe Penland, owner of Quality Mat Company, accepted the Family Business of the Year Award. Penland began his business in his backyard with the help of his brother and other family members. His company continues to be a strong supporter of Family Services of Southeast Texas, Inc.
Recipients were selected by their commitment to strong families and their contributions to improve the lives of families in Southeast Texas, said Janet Walker, executive director of Family Services of Southeast Texas, Inc.
“The luncheon was touching, entertaining and heartfelt,” said Rebecca Blanchard, public relations coordinator for Family Services of Southeast Texas. “The honorees made us proud of the community.”
The Celebrate Families Luncheon was sponsored by Teri and Glen Morgan, Regina Rogers, Dr. and Mrs. Michael Warren, Entergy, Capital One Private Client Group, Giglio Distributing Company, Kinsel Motors, and Market Basket.
