Legacy Christian Academy is inviting the community to change a life.
On Tuesday, March 2, at 7 p.m., Legacy will hosts its second annual Jubilee Banquet featuring Sean Tuohy at the Holiday Inn Beaumont Plaza on Walden Road.
Sean Tuohy? That name rings a bell, right? It should. Tim McGraw recently portrayed Tuohy in the movie “The Blind Side,” the inspirational drama based on the life of Michael Oher. Tuohy and his wife, Leigh Anne (a feisty Sandra Bullock
in the movie) took Oher, a homeless teenager, into theirfamily. As a result of the Tuohy family’s love, care and time, Oher excelled in school and football, earned a full-ride scholarship to Ole Miss and became a NFL first-place draft pick.
Tuohy will tell how he and his family committed to change the teen’s life, and that is the exact message that Legacy wants to the community to hear – how children’s lives can be changed through time, love and character development.
“When I saw the movie, I knew I wanted Tuohy to come to our Jubilee,” said Bonnie
Spotts, marketing director at Legacy. “We’re a small Christian school, like the one Oher went to, and we want to educate but also send children away with much more.”
Legacy is a Christian nondenominational school with about 195 students in the sixth
through 12th grades. As part of the curriculum, students are required to attend daily chapel, four years of Bible class and perform 20 hours of service a year.
Each year Legacy awards scholarships in hopes of changing lives through unique educational opportunity. Legacy awarded 55 scholarships last year. Some of the scholarship recipients will speak at the Jubilee about how their lives have been changed as students of Legacy. A successful Jubilee Banquet will result in additional scholarship awards for the 2010-11 school year.
Tickets for the event start at $100. Ten-top tables are $1,000; $2,500; $5,000; $10,000 and $15,000. Those purchasing tables for $5,000 or more will attend a private reception with Sean Tuohy prior to the event in the Atrium of the Holiday Inn. Call Bonnie Spotts at (409) 924-0500, ext. 128.
