BEAUMONT, TX, MARCH 2, 2010: No longer will area citizens see the 20-year-old brown limousine transporting Hotel Beaumont residents around Southeast Texas.

Through a grant from the B.A. and Elinor Steinhagen Foundation administered by the Capital One Private Client Group; a generous donation from the estate of Peggy Pereira, a former Hotel Beaumont resident; and other anonymous donors, a new 12 to 14-passenger bus will soon be transporting residents to appointments, shopping excursions, and special outings.  The bus is equipped with a lift, making loading and unloading easier and safer for residents with special needs.

The long-awaited bus replaces the limousine graciously donated by the Rogers family several years ago.  With the new seatbelt law in effect, the limousine could only transport four residents at one time, requiring quite a few trips throughout the week.  Often for special events, volunteers would be called on to transport residents.

Archie Graham, the official driver for Hotel Beaumont residents, has served the Hotel community for over four years with a perfect driving record.  “We are blessed indeed to have such a dependable, dedicated person to provide this valuable service; and with the new bus, we can plan more activities outside the Hotel,” said Arthur Berry, executive director.

A ribbon cutting and launching of the bus takes place at Hotel Beaumont today at 3 p.m. with city, county, and Federal officials, Chamber of Commerce ambassadors, Hotel residents, volunteers, friends and neighbors celebrating the new arrival with refreshments to be served after the ceremony.
