The Beaumont Metropolitan YMCA today announced immediate plans for its L.L. Melton and Parkdale Mall facilities as well as its planned new facility on Dishman Road. The announcement comes after a recent meeting of the not-for-profit organization’s board of directors during which the board voted unanimously to continue reduced operations.
The board reaffirmed its decision to cancel its lease with the City of Beaumont on the L.L. Melton facility. The YMCA will not resume operations at the location.
The board also voted to keep open the YMCA’s facility at Parkdale Mall and continue operations there.
Finally, the board voted to work with YMCA of the USA, the national resource office for America’s YMCAs, to investigate the possibility of completing the planned Dishman Road facility, which is under construction, and opening it as a YMCA branch.
“Our board believes strongly in the YMCA mission and in the positive impact that YMCA programs and services can have on our community,” said Wyatt Snider, Chairman of the Board. “We have had to make some difficult decisions, but we hope they will allow the YMCA to maintain a vital, mission-driven presence in Beaumont.”
