An award-winning journalist, best-selling author, motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and mother of seven, Lunden defines “today’s working mother,” as reflected in her being named Mother of the Year by the National Mothers Day Committee and Career Mother of the Year by the National Institute of Infant Services.

The focus of the LiveWell Women’s Conference is to provide women in Southeast Texas with tools to improve their physical, spiritual and mental health. The conference is scheduled to coincide with the annual National Women’s Health Week (Sunday, May 9 – Saturday, May 15), which encourages women to make their health a top priority and take simple steps for a longer, healthier and happier life.

“Joan Lunden will be a tremendous resource and encouragement for women attending the 2010 conference,” said Becky Howard, Conference Lead. “She has been a constant and reassuring presence for more than 25 years, keeping viewers informed on the latest information to care for their homes, their families and themselves.”

The day-long LiveWell Women’s Conference will feature more than 25 workshops covering areas such as health, fitness and exercise, parenting, finance, diet and nutrition, time management, self improvement, motivation, and stress relief. CHRISTUS Hospital will offer a variety of health screenings throughout the day.

Jefferson County Sheriff Mitch Woods will be the keynote speaker for the event, which will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the John Gray Center, Building A. Woods will speak at a luncheon from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m.

The conference will bring Lamar University faculty members and students together with the government, civic and nonprofit leaders who are being invited to attend, said James Vanderleeuw, Jack Brooks Chair at Lamar University and conference director.

The event will include eight panels, four of which will focus on substance abuse and four of which will focus on issues pertaining to local public administration and policy. Topics include underage drinking, prescription drug abuse and recent trends in substance abuse (studies and prevention/treatment and intervention). Other topics are local economic development, non-profit organizations, and public administration and criminal justice.

Joining Vanderleeuw in conference organization are Terri Davis, conference coordinator, and Michael Pennington, assistant coordinator. Davis and Pennington are assistant professors of political science. Amanda McLaughlin, program specialist with the Substance Abuse Division of the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission, is coordinating the substance-abuse panels.

Southeast Texas, March 7, 2010: – SETXsocialcenter.com, a free calendar for all events in Southeast Texas, complementary thanks to Tim and Cody Bauer with Texas Financial in Winnie, Texas, is pleased to announce the events of its member organizations for the week of March 7, 2010.
Lamar University is on spring break this week and so are some area private schools. As a result the social calendar is a little slower than the average Southeast Texas week but there is a lot of training and workshops going on from first aid training to health seminars to business planning. 8:10 a.m. Pontifical Mass celebrated by Bishop Curtis J. Guillory. Immediately following mass, Bishop Guillory will bless the food on the Saint Joseph Table (also referred to as the Saint Joseph Altar) in the Cathedral Basilica Center.

11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Dine-In and Take-Out Pasta Lunches will be served in the Cathedral Basilica Center

WHERE:  Historic St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, 700 Jefferson Street (in downtown Beaumont)

PURPOSE:      The purpose of this annual event is to collect donations to help feed and assist the poor in Southeast Texas.  All donations collected at the St. Joseph’s Day Pasta; Lunch event will be given to the following local charities:

• Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas
• Some Other Place
• St. Katharine Drexel Humanitarians
• St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Youth for their Southeast Texas Food Bank and Mission Trip projects

WHO: This is a community wide event; all are invited and welcome to attend.

COST: Dine-In Pasta Lunches:  Donations will be collected at the door.  No set fee.

Take-Out Lunches: $10 donation per meal.
